Everyone’s So Tech Savvy!
It’s funny to think about how technology has advanced in our time. Growing up, I wasn’t as impressed with it as my parents and grandparents were. Why, you may ask? Because I am currently growing up in the digital age. Our generation is so used to technology updating every day that learning about new applications isn’t a hassle at all, it’s just second nature.
Whether you are in your teens or your fifties, we are all using technology in an evolving way. Sure, millennials are good at it because we grew up with technology surrounding us, but there’s plenty of people a generation or two older than ours that have grown with the times as well. The best part about growing up in the digital age is the way our brains are now expecting and easily picking up new information quicker than ever. Here are four reasons why growing up in the digital era has been a good thing for everyone:
1. We have a quick learning pace:
There’s a reason people are learning how to use technology so fast, and that’s because it is quickly evolving. It’s thrown in our faces, whether we really want it or not. New cell phones come out every day, and updates make it easier for us to access different applications all the time. Of course, we can’t forget social media! Dating all the way back from AOL, to Myspace, then Facebook, then Twitter and Instagram; we’re so used to the continuing development of different sites that we constantly crave more.
2. We live and breathe cell phones:
Cell phones are practically taking place of computers these days. You can browse the Internet, check your email, draft documents, and transfer files all in the palm of your hand. Needless to say, our generation will spend an entire paychecks on the latest one because we want to fit in. We wake up every morning, pick up our phone, and immediately catch up on the latest news or social media drama. I get badgered for staying in bed an extra 10 minutes because I am busy scrolling through Instagram. This is an example of how our generation can be different than the previous ones. Some members of older generations wake up, jump right out of bed and get the day started. We could learn a few tips from our parents, you know.
3. We use better tools to organize:
Back in the day the only way to organize your thoughts included the handy notepad, Post-it notes and paper files. In the digital era, we still have these tools, of course, but we also have other less tedious ones that make our lives run smoothly. Pocket and Evernote are great examples of apps that can save snippets of info you find online and be accessed via web plug-ins or even your smart phone. Another tool that can create lists based on the way you organize in your head is Workflowy. Its intuitive design gives you the option to create lists based on hierarchies. Although having a place to organize website bookmarks and your thoughts is helpful, your important paper documents need some TLC, too. Instead of losing those Post-it notes, notepads and even important files, document management software is the way to go. It can keep your files secure, organized and easily accessible on your computer or smart phone. See? You can easily integrate traditional habits with the changing digital age.
4. We can connect to the world easily:
Applications on our computers and cell phones are important to us because we are constantly being updated on news, sports, entertainment, trends, and loved ones. They are efficient, fun to use, and addicting because of their simplicity. Millennials and others who have been around technology their whole lives might know the ins and outs of the important applications. But others who are just learning how to use a smartphone may understandably become very perplexed, very quickly. If someone you know with less tech experience gets a new android or iPhone, it can be fun teaching them how to use Facebook so they can connect with old friends and family members!
Learning about new technologies is different for every one. Some learn more quickly because they grew up with these emerging gadgets and trends. Older generations can benefit from the help of younger ones to understand these concepts. From device updates to document management software, these are just a couple technologies that make life much easier. Technology is love – spread it!
